Service Record Born a year after the Third World War ended, Kurokawa is one of the many Japanese Americans to be born in America after the nation of Japan was destroyed by flooding in the late 21st century and the survivors were taken in by the United States as refugees. She entered the Academy at 16, having graduated high school early as well as completed a degree in engineering at UCLA. She was something of a child prodigy and became one of the brightest young stars of the Academy's engineering program, picking up astrophysics, computer programming, and advanced mathematics along with her aerospace engineering course work. Her ability to take apart and rebuild just about any type of propulsion system was only outdone by her ability to get herself in trouble with her vulgar, abrasive language and notoriously short temper. It was only after one of her professors lobbied on her behalf she was allowed to graduate the academy instead of being kicked out at the age of 20 in 2018. That professor arranged to have her brought in on the team that was assembling the EAV Genesis, making Kurokawa one of the engineers that actually built the ship and giving her a better understanding of its engineering than most others in the Earth Alliance. During its construction, she was suspended or placed on leave at least three times for disciplinary reasons, but her value to the project kept her from being busted out of the service. When she applied to serve as its chief of engineering upon completion of its construction, her request was met with mixed reactions: her skills made her an invaluable asset to the EA Navy, but her discipline problems made her difficult to work with at the best of times. In the end, it was decided that she would be promoted Lieutenant Commander and assigned to her requested post as the chief of engineering on the EAV Genesis, the youngest chief of engineering in the entire fleet.
